Shishukunj Melbourne

Garden of Children

A volunteer-run charity nurturing children through core life skills and Indian cultural values in Melbourne's east.

Shishukunj Melbourne

Meet the founder

Since September 2009, Shishukunj Melbourne has grown from a shared vision into a cherished community for children and youth in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. Founded as a charity registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, its purpose has always been to advance education among children through core life skills while nurturing a deep appreciation of Indian culture.

What makes Shishukunj truly special is the people behind it. Every activity is run by dedicated, well-trained volunteers, many of whom grew up in Shishukunj themselves and have returned to guide the next generation. This continuity gives the organisation its warmth and its enduring spirit, embodying the belief attributed to Mahatma Gandhi to "be the change you want to see in the world."

Part of a global family with centres in India, the UK, Kenya and Australia, Shishukunj Melbourne remains proudly rooted in its local community, offering a welcoming space where each child's potential can flourish across physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social dimensions.
